Terms of service and legal disclaimer

Version 2026-06-14. This is an English translation for reference. The Traditional Chinese text, which is the same text shown in the app, is the binding version.

Welcome to Shutterguard (“the app”). These are standard-form contract terms with legal effect. Please read them before using the service. By checking “I have read and agree” or continuing to use the app, you confirm that you understand and accept all of these terms.

1. Nature of the service and technical limits

1. Assistive tool: the app uses your device's existing hardware (such as the camera, Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth) to provide assistive clues about privacy in your surroundings. Because of hardware specifications, lighting, signal interference and the current state of technology, the app makes no express or implied guarantee that it can detect, find or rule out every hidden camera.

2. Environmental interference (false alarms): a “suspicious spot” or “reflection” shown by the app may be caused by ordinary reflection or refraction from metal, glass, mirrors or other materials, or by signal interference. It does not mean a hidden camera is present.

3. Operating limits (missed devices): if a hidden camera records only to a memory card, runs offline, or uses its own mobile network instead of the local Wi‑Fi, the app cannot detect its network activity.

2. Legal nature of results

Scores, indicators and assessments shown in the app are relative references based on data collected at the time. They have no legal force as forensic findings, evidence or confirmation. A high score does not mean a hidden camera is definitely present, and a low score does not mean the environment is definitely safe.

3. Limitation of liability

1. Except where the law requires otherwise (such as intent or gross negligence), for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, property or non-property damage arising from using or being unable to use the app, or from relying on its results (including but not limited to invasion of privacy, threats to personal safety, emotional distress or damage to reputation), the developer's total liability, to the maximum extent permitted by law, is capped by version: NT$0 for users of the free version; for users of a paid version, the amount the user most recently paid for the service (subscription or one-time purchase).

2. You understand and agree that the app must not be used as the sole or final basis for judging the safety of people or property.

4. Device permissions and personal data

To perform detection, the app will, with your permission, access device features including but not limited to the camera (optical reflection detection), Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth (nearby device scanning). These features may trigger the system's location permission prompt. Any collection, processing and use of related data follows Taiwan's Personal Data Protection Act and the app's privacy policy, and data will never be used for unlawful or unauthorized purposes.

5. Emergency guidance

If you have any concern about privacy where you are, or strongly suspect illegal recording, contact the police immediately (110 in Taiwan) so that officers can search the premises lawfully.

6. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms and any dispute arising from the service are governed by the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Both parties agree that the Taiwan New Taipei District Court is the court of first instance.
